Once an EB5 applicant signs an agreement to invest funds in a project and provides
all necessary documentation, $500,000 is deposited in a secure bank escrow. The
applicant’s immigration attorney submits paperwork on his/her behalf to the United
States Citizenship and Immigration Services. Once the application is approved and
escrowed funds are released to the projects, the applicant and his/her family will
meet directly with U.S. Consulate to be issued a conditional Green Card, valid for
two years. The applicant is free to emigrate at this time. Before the two year conditional
Green Card expires, the applicant must submit an application to United States Citizenship
and Immigration Services requesting a permanent Green Card. After five years, the
applicant can implement his/her fund’s exit strategy. The helpful diagram included
below shows the investment process in greater detail.
